PAUL MURRAY

17 April – 8 May 2010

PAUL MURRAY

Paul Murray graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 1984 and has been painting, teaching and travelling ever since. The pictures are mostly inspired by local scenes from the Western Ferries and the Kip Marina to the hills and landscapes around the artist’s Gourock home. However, inspiration has also been drawn from Paul’s travels in Europe and the Middle East; his work is represented in the private collection of the Bahrain Royal Family

‘His paintings attempt to encourage the spectator’s eye to journey back through the picture, to look beyond the decorative and to appreciate the subtle changes of surface and mark. Collage is crucial in the work; pre-printed images, calligraphy and textures, are left as a trace of the observed subject.’
