Kurt Jackson is one of Britain's leading painters. Born in 1961 his work embraces an extensive range of materials and techniques including mixed media, large canvases, relief work, print making and sculpture.
Whether working in Cornwall, up country or abroad,Jackson's paintings are set in places that have been travelled to and explored regularly through out his life and seen through the eyes of an artist with a deep and rich understanding of natural history and ecology, politics and environmental issues; maybe recording a time and place and a way of life - a geography where past and present co exist.
" A dedication to and celebration of the environment is intrinsic to both his politics and his art and a holistic involvement with his subjects provides the springboard for formal innovations" Edward Krcma 2001.
Kurt Jackson states; "In Cornwall my subjects are mostly places I know well, that I visit over and over again - certain areas of coast, moorland and valleys. I tend to work on projects, usually over a year, which are based on a particular aspect of Cornish culture or a distinct tract of countryside. Capturing a fleeting impression doesn't interest me. In all my paintings the aim is to convey my feelings and sense of awareness in that particular environment".
Jackson's paintings are fluent, dynamic and exciting, resulting from a working method that is both challenging and intense.
