For more than half a century Fernand Mourlot was synonymous with the resurgence of lithography, a process which would attract the greatest artistic masters of our times – Picasso, Matisse, Chagall, Miro, Braque and Giacometti. Under the direction of Mourlot they enriched their own work as well as contemporary art in general with a new medium of expression.

This exhibiton is made up by original lithographs by Matisse (after gouache decoupee), Picasso, Chagall and Braque produced for an issue of the French folio Ver ve between 1953 and 1958. Lithographs from Giacometti, Chillida, and Miro were all produced for a French folio Derriere le Miroir between 1950 and 1971 alongside contributions of unpublished texts by Beckett and Sartre.

Indeed, as with Verve, every issue was produced with an unheard-of extravagance at the time, to make it a very unique item.They were published in large editions – typically 3,000-6,000 and some are originally signed, signed in the stone, unsigned, and each will be accompanied by a letter of authenticity.

Also exhibited will be work by the following artists: Karel Appel, Wilhelmina Barns-Graham, Sandra Blow, Alexander Calder, Eduardo Chilida, Barrie Cook, John Hoyland and Bryan Pearce.
